About Acquiesce

Acquiesce – verb: to surrender, to become quiet.  Acquiesce has become our mantra — to submit to nature, to yield to the vineyard, to acquiesce to the grapes so they present their own true character.

For a memorable experience, these food loving wines are paired with small bites in our 100 year-old converted barn tasting room.

The Dreamers

“One day, we are going to have a beautiful country property and we’ll call it Acquiesce” – Rodney Tipton

Our Story

We started our Acquiesce venture late in life.  After years of living a corporate lifestyle, raising 3 boys and relocating to 5 different states plus living in Europe for a while, we found a peaceful home on an 18 acre property with a vineyard and 100 year old barn.

While living in Portland, Oregon, Rodney having just traveled through 8 countries in 10 days was listening to K.D. Lang’s “Acquiesce” and said, “One day, we are going to have a property and we’ll call it Acquiesce” . . . oh really?  Where will this property be?  “I don’t know, but we’ll be surrounded by land, watch the sunrise and sunset and we’ll be very happy there.”

And here we are, living a great life, making world class wines and “surrendering” to the vines.

Our Estate Vineyard

We currently grow 16 acres of our white Rhône style varietals. Our vines are sourced from the famed Château de Beaucastel of Châteauneuf du Pape, France and they show a timeless elegance fused with great fruit expression courtesy of Lodi’s sandy soils and Mediterranean climate. We follow a regenerative and sustainable viticulture program focusing on our cover crop to increase soil health, organic matter, less water usage and tuned-in microbes to take care of the vines with less inputs from us. Our grapes are hand picked, hand sorted and whole cluster pressed. Attention to detail reigns here!

Our Mission – World Class Wines

Before we planted one vine in the ground, we made the decision to make the best wines possible from our vineyard.  Premium varietals are the result of painstaking attention to detail in the vineyard and in the winery.  Our small lot, handcrafted wines have won numerous awards and the attention of others in the wine community.

Our Vision Extends Beyond Wine

It’s also about making a difference.  Rodney founded the Lodi Appellation Inclusion Collective (LAIC) along with other progressive Lodi wineries and industry members in 2020.  The goal of LAIC is to increase diversity in our region and the industry at large.  Check out this Forbe’s article written by Dr. Liz Thach entitled, “Lodi Collective Is Early Leader in Efforts To Increase Wine Industry Diversity.”

We are currently partnered with San Joaquin A+ and Improve Your Tomorrow to empower youth by introducing them to opportunities in agriculture and the wine industry.  The goal of this partnership is to create a brighter future for young people in this region through mentorship, internships, and potentially job placement.
