À Table Picpoul Blanc 2018

2018 À Table Picpoul Blanc
À Table! is the French phrase for Come to the Table. This Picpoul Blanc is dedicated to our only child, Alexandra “Alex” Manfull, and to all the others whose lives have been afflicted by debilitating basal ganglia encephalitis diseases such as PANDAS. Alex died, at 26 years old, due to Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus (PANDAS). While the purchase of this wine is not a tax-deductible charitable contribution, with this bottle, you are part of the À Table! project and by bringing people to the table, you are raising awareness about these horrific diseases. – Thank you for your support, Susan and William “Towny” Manfull

Profile

TASTING NOTES

This crisp white offers bright acidity with lovely aroma of crisp apple and pear with lemon and a faint violet scent; lean yet refreshingly silky and fine textured. We offer one of the very few bottlings in the U.S. of this unique wine.

VINEYARD NOTES

We grow 1.3 acres of Picpoul Blanc in our Estate Vineyard and follow the Lodi Rules certification for sustainable winegrowing. Harvested in the Mokelumne River AVA of the Lodi Appellation, our grape clones are Tablas Creek cuttings from the famous French Château de Beaucastel Winery in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region. Our climate is very similar to that of the Southern Rhône with cool nighttime breezes from the Mokelumne River nearby giving our grapes their ripe, fruity flavors with excellent balance.

WINEMAKER NOTES

All of our grapes are hand-picked and immediately pressed as whole clusters to capture their fresh, flavorful character. The grapes were harvested in the early morning to keep acidity at its highest, providing the vibrancy in the wine. The juice is then cool fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to highlight the pure fruit expressions.

The Alex Manfull Memorial Fund

Alex was in the prime of her life: a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Princeton University, prolific writer, voracious reader, artist, photographer, runner, and fashionista. She was already a successful financial analyst in New York City, and had recently moved to Washington, D.C. She had a great sense of humor and kindness in spades. Alex received a formal diagnosis of PANDAS just a couple of weeks before she died (although she had diagnosed herself years earlier). She was set to begin treatment with one of the most highly regarded pediatric neurologists in the U.S., specializing in PANDAS. Alex was elated to begin treatment and, as soon as she was better, intended to write about PANDAS, telling everyone about it so that no one else would have to endure what she had. But she died a few days before treatment was to begin. We do not want another person to lose his or her life, or to lose the years it can take to treat this disease successfully.

We established The Alex Manfull Memorial Fund to raise money for research, education, and treatment of PANDAS.  Proceeds from À Table! —including the purchase of this wine—will go toward research to further understand the causes and to identify effective treatments of PANDAS. The purchase of this wine is not a tax-deductible charitable contribution. If you would like to make a donation directly to The Alex Manfull Memorial Fund, please visit: TheAlexManfullMemorialFund.com which is part of PANDAS Network, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; all gifts to the fund are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Come To The Table

Come to the table. Our hope is that you take this bottle of wine to the table to share with friends and family alongside a meal you love. Coming to the table was our family tradition. It’s where we three—along with our many friends—recounted our day’s activities, expressed our joys and our disappointments, solved problems, talked politics, and had many laughs.

We hope this bottle engenders lively conversation at your table, too, and that you are moved to raise your glasses to Alex and others who have PANDAS or PANS with the commitment to spread the word about these disorders.
